Thermal and Mineral Healing Waters
Give your body a chance

Bathing in thermal water has a remarkable history and continuing attractiveness. From a very early time our ancestors enjoyed the benefits of natural hot springs. The evidence of organized use of the thermal spring dates back 5000 years. The Egyptians used thermal baths for therapeutic purposes as early as 2000 BC. The Greeks built baths near hot springs and volcanoes around 500 BC. Hippocrates recommended hydrotherapy for the treatment of disorders such as jaundice and rheumatism. The Romans built complex systems carrying mineral waters throughout private rooms, steam rooms and public baths. The Romans who recognised the health-giving properties of thermal baths, cultivated the development of spas in Serbia. Doctors created centres for treatment, not for leisure. Much attention  was paid to purging, drinking cures, eating well balanced diets, and bathing.

The medical significance of bathing is now acknowledged, especially by many rheumatologists and dermatologists, and this aspect is considered more important for a number of spa resorts than prestige and leisure. Bathing is usually combined with many other treatments, such as physical exercises, hydrotherapy, mud packs… Each spring has its own characteristics and related therapeutic properties. However, a significant number of our spa resorts also direct more attention towards wellness and leisure. Steam baths, saunas, whirlpools, wellness centres, detox and massages are standard in many spa resorts, with the main objective being to relax, indulge, cleanse, energise and strengthen the body and mind, and to prevent development of a disease. Serbian spas offer facilities for medical treatment that gives remarkable results, but, in addition cater for a growing number of health tourists, who combine their holidays with an investment in wellbeing.
We moved so far away from life’s natural ways with consequences well-known to us all.
"The body within has the inherent ability and intelligence to heal itself, provided it is given the opportunity to do so"- by  Hippocrates, the father of medicine, some 2400 years ago

The Serbian spa tradition has gained an exceptional reputation and respect thanks to the high quality of the natural curative springs. Serbia is rich in thermal mineral springs whose waters, depending on their chemical make-up, temperature and other properties make it possible to treat and cure almost any illness for which certain spa is recommended.
Spas and climate resorts belong to an age-old tradition and have always been favourite places to rest and relax. Most of the spas in Serbia are to be found at the foot of mountains, protected from strong winds, with mild climates and ecologically uncontaminated environments.
The use of the most advanced therapeutic and rehabilitative methods combined with traditional use of natural mineral water, mud, natural gas and the climate makes Serbia The European Spa destination.
